Getting Your Kids Ready for a New Season of Winter Sports?

Sport is an excellent way of teaching your children valuable life lessons. Your kids will learn teamwork, leadership skills and the value of, and the payoff of hard work. But there are some precautions you should take to ensure your little cherubs finish the game in one piece. Safety gear is essential to make sure your kids return home in safely with their body intact.

A mouth guard is a must. Protecting your child’s teeth is paramount. You can always go to the local chemist and pick up a mouthguard, but they are often ill-fitting and will not provide the protection they need. It’s best to go to a dentist and get one professionally fitted. Professionally fitted mouthguards are proven to be more comfortable and offer better protection for your child’s pearly whites.

So before your child starts the new season book them into the dentist and get a mouthguard fitted. It’s a simple procedure where they take a mould of your child’s teeth and model the mouthguard, so it perfectly fits. It’s pain-free, and the little extra effort will be worth it in the long run.

This is also a great time to kill a few birds with one stone. Obviously not literally. While they’re in the chair, get your dentist to do a routine check-up and clean. If your child does need some dental work it’s best to get onto it straight away so that problems don’t appear later in life. Getting your child’s teeth checked on a regular basis will save you money in the long run, as dental problems detected and treated early are easier to treat than doing some major modifications in the future.

If you watch the games on the television, every player has worn a mouthguard and there is a good reason for that. They work. Wearing mouth guards wasn’t that popular in the early years because people weren’t educated that well on the value of keeping your teeth. It wasn’t until players were getting their teeth knocked out week after week that the penny dropped and mouthguards suddenly were a staple in your gear bag.

So, when you’re getting your child ready for their winter sports this year don’t hesitate to book in to see one of our dentists in Parramatta at Dental Avenue and get a mouthguard professionally fitted. You only get one set of teeth during this life (apart from baby teeth), so it’s best to take care of them. Your child will thank you down the track.
