The two main types are porcelain and composite, and we’ll talk through which suits your goals at a consultation.

Porcelain veneers are made in a lab, tend to be more durable and stain-resistant, and usually take more than one visit. Composite veneers are built up directly on the tooth in a single appointment and are typically a lower-cost option, though they may not last as long. The right choice depends on your goals, budget, and the condition of your teeth.

With good care, porcelain veneers can last many years, while composite generally has a shorter lifespan. Longevity comes down to your oral hygiene and habits — avoiding biting hard objects and managing grinding, for example. We’ll go through how to care for them.

Some veneers involve removing a small amount of enamel so they sit naturally, while others are more minimal. Because enamel doesn’t grow back, that step is generally irreversible, which is why we assess your teeth carefully and explain what’s involved before proceeding — so you can make an informed decision.

It depends on the type. Where enamel has been reshaped to fit the veneer, the process isn’t reversible, so the tooth will usually always need some form of covering. Minimal- or no-prep options can be more conservative. We’ll explain exactly what your chosen treatment involves at your consultation.
